Padre Island National Seashore Announces Fee-Free Day
(Corpus Christi, Texas)- Acting Superintendent Travis Poulson announced today that the National Park Service, in order to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, will waive the entrance fee to visit Padre Island National Seashore on Monday January 20, 2014. All of America's 400 other national park sites will have free entry as well.
Residents and out of town visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to visit this remarkable coastal park at no cost and explore a portion of the world's longest undeveloped barrier island beach. Be advised that activity fees for Malaquite Campground and Bird Island Basin still apply.
In addition to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the National Park Service will waive admission fees on eight other days in 2014 – Presidents Day weekend (February 15 through 17), the first weekend of National Park Week (April 19 and 20), the National Park Service's 98th birthday (August 25), National Public Lands Day (September 27) and Veterans Day (November 11).
These fee free days will allow thousands of Americans to access America's most affordable and beautiful attractions. You can't beat America's national park sites for family time, exercise, and opportunities to learn. For additional information about the fee free day or the daily visitor education programs, please contact the Malaquite Beach Visitor Center at (361)949-8068. The visitor center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
On your next park visit be sure to inquire about National Park passes that provide free or discounted year-round admission for active duty military members and their dependents, senior citizens, and people with permanent disabilities.
