Corpus Christi, TX - On the afternoon of June 15th Padre Island National Seashore will be closing both North and South beaches to vehicle traffic due to the tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico. Tides during this rain and coastal flooding event are expected to be 1-2 feet higher than normal. There is potential for winds to be 30-50 miles per hour along with heavy rains. No camping will be allowed on the beach or in the campgrounds. Visitors can still walk on the beach near the visitor center during the afternoon of June 15th. However swimming is not recommended due to rip currents that are expected to continue through Tuesday.

Park staff will reassess current and expected weather conditions to determine when the beaches and campground can be reopened to the public.
