The Stewardship Institute is excited to welcome the newest addition to our group, Loni Cantú. Loni is stepping into her new role as the Leadership Program Manager and Assistant Director for the Institute. She is a Presidential Management Fellow and a recent graduate from the Yale School of the Environment where she earned a Master’s in Environmental Management. We are looking forward to Loni bringing her experience and perspective to managing the SLR program and support the other programs and projects in the Institute’s portfolio.
Loni grew up in rural south Texas and has a deep connection to the land created through exploring and managing mesquite forests with her father. Her deep passion for land conservation sent Loni to Texas A&M where she received a B.S. in Environmental Studies. Since then, Loni has worked as an interpretive ranger at Grand Teton NP, a science teacher with high need youth, served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Fiji, and worked with the US Forest Service in the Urban and Community Forestry Program. These collective experiences ignited a passion in Loni to support opportunities for high-need communities.
She is excited to help connect folks with resources to build healthier lives and healthier environments.
Loni is excited to support the Superintendents Leadership Roundtable and the Institute programs that build leadership and deep authentic human connection with nature and to each other. For fun Loni loves cuddling her 9-month-old daughter, walking (eventually jogging) at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park and getting cozy indoors with tea and a good book (especially if it’s snowing outside)!
