Operations in the Absence of Appropriations

Per the National Park Service contingency plan, national parks remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures during the lapse of appropriations.

On January 5, 2019, the National Park Service began using recreation fee revenue generated under the Federal Recreation Lands Enhancement Act (FLREA) to address the maintenance and sanitation issues that arose at national parks maintain restrooms and sanitation, trash collection, road maintenance, campground operations, law enforcement and emergency operations, and staffing entrance gates as necessary to provide critical safety information.”
