GEORGIA9) Fort Morris Fort Morris is one of the few remaining Revolutionary War era earthwork fortifications in the United States. First fortified in the 1750s, the fort was manned to protect the once prosperous seaport town of Sunbury. Fort Morris was surrendered to the British on January 9, 1779, the last patriot post to fall in the American Revolution.
The Fort Morris State Historic Site is off 1-95 (exit #76). The park and museum are open Tuesday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m., Sunday 2:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. Admission. (912) 884-5999.
