Alt Text Map of Fort Laramie National Historic Site in Wyoming. Buildings painted in watercolor in perspective are laid out in a square with more along roads that cut through flat, grassy terrain. Buildings are numbered with red circles or blue squares with 1 through 21. Extended Description The Laramie River curls from the middle of the left edge of the painting down and across the picture. The water is painted slate blue, and the grassy areas are ash brown and mossy green dotted with dark green trees. The square of buildings is tucked into the cup shape made by the river. A road travels from the top right corner down and across to the square. A spur branches off before the square to lead to the Visitor Center, which is labeled with a callout box and with a red number 1 in the top right quadrant of the map. Across the road from the visitor center is a long white structure with a brown roof numbered with a red 2, and what appears to be a house within a white fence, which is numbered with a blue 5. Buildings 3, 4, and other unmarked buildings lie in the fields beyond these two structures. Another access road leading up from the main travelway passes a parking area, more structures, and what looks like a tiny brown church at the base of a mound. Buildings 6 through 10 line the main travelway. Site 13 and building 14 are on the next side, and buildings 15 through 19 are opposite the green square. The long building 20 completes the square. An American flag flies from a tall flagpole on the green and people appear to stand in lines. Building 21 is between the visitor center and river. A bridge crosses the river on the near side of the square, and leads to a gathering of horse-drawn, covered wagons and tents. The artist signed the lower right corner, “RICHARD SCHLECHT.”
