Alt Text Map of Fort Bowie National Historic Site in Arizona. Shown in mint green against a tan background, the park is long and narrow with larger blocky areas, especially to the right. Extended Description Two lines run from the left edge of the map and curve up to the top right corner. In solid red, the first marks the unpaved Apache Pass Road as it weaves through the western portion of Fort Bowie and past the “Site of Wagon Train Massacre.” About a quarter of the way in, the road exits the site to the north before dipping back in along a Trailhead with parking, a picnic area, and restrooms. Text at the west end of the road reads, “To State Route 186, 6 miles (10 kilometers)” and text at the northeast end reads, “To Bowie and Interstate 10, 12 miles (19 kilometers).” The Butterfield Overland Mail route runs parallel to Apache Pass Road for a short distance in the west end of the park. When the Apache Pass Road turns north, the Butterfield Overland Mail continues through the park before also curving northward about three-quarters of the way across. Points of interest along the way are labeled from west to east as follows: West Summit, Apache Pass at 5,110 feet (1,558 meters) near the western perimeter; Stage Station (ruins) more than halfway across; Site of Bascom Camp slightly northeast of the ruins; and Tevis Rocks near the northeast edge of the map. In the southeastern corner of the site, the Visitor Station has a ranger station, picnic area, and restrooms at the southeast loop of Overlook Ridge Trail. Twenty-one brown squares and rectangles mark the site of the Second Fort Bowie (ruins) just east of the visitor center. Heading back west, the southern leg of the trail then passes Ruins; three more squares representing First Fort Bowie (also ruins); Apache Spring; Site of Battle of Apache Pass; Chiricahua Apache Indian Agency (more ruins); Cemetery; and Stage Station (ruins). The trail then moves northward to a final site of ruins before arriving at the Trailhead, meeting Apache Pass Road. Slate-blue dotted and dashed lines mark three canyons that run north-south through the site. These are labeled from west to east as follows: Willow Gulch, Cutoff Canyon, and Siphon Canyon. Legend In the upper left corner of the map, a scale measures distances of 0.5 kilometers and 0.5 miles. At the lower left corner, a legend lists the following: Dashed black line for self-guiding hiking trail, and Brown dashed line for unmaintained hiking trail. Symbols represent Parking, Restrooms, Ranger station, and Picnic area.
