Extended Description State Route 270 runs through and then along the eastern border of Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site, which angles diagonally from near the top center of the map down toward the right side. State Route 270 continues “To Hāwī” off the top edge of the map and “To Waimea and Kailua-Kona” down from the right edge. Inward-facing brackets indicate the Makahuna Gulch on State Route 270. In the sliver of park that runs along State Route 270 are the Site of John Young’s Homestead, labeled in red, and the Makeāhua Gulch, Parking, and a site labeled Park Maintenance are labeled in black. A third set of brackets locates the Pōhaukole Gulch, which is labeled on the opposite side of State Route 270. Now in the bulk of the park south and west of State Route 270, park roads lead to Park Headquarters and the Visitor Center, which has parking, along the southern edge of the park. One park road continues past the visitor center to reach parking in the cream-white colored Samuel M. Spencer Park on the Pacific Ocean. The Ala Kahakai National Historical Trail (Coastal Trail) creates a loop from the visitor center up and around the Stone Leaning Post Overlook. Other sites in this area are labeled in red, including Stone Leaning Post, which is inside the trail boundary near the overlook. To the west of the Stone Leaning Post is a rectangle made of a blue dashed line, which is labeled Hale o Kapuni Heiau (Site of submerged temple). Pelekane (Site of Royal Courtyard) is to the north, Mailekini Heiau nearby to the east, and Puʻukoholā Heiau (Temple on the Whale Hill) a bit farther east.
