Extended Description A roughly rectangular tan area encompassing parts of modern-day California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona is labeled “1848, Ceded by Mexico/México cedió.” To the east, a gray area loosely mirroring modern-day Texas, is labeled “1845, Annexed by US/EUA anexó.” A blue line representing the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) winds from about halfway down the tan area and along most of the western border of the gray area to the gulf. A sliver of lighter tan between the territory ceded in 1848 and México is labeled “1854, Gadsden Purchase from Mexico/Venta de La Mesilla a EUA.”
