Alt Text Topographic map of Tonto National Monument in Arizona, which is a mountain in the center of the map flanked by Cave Canyon to the left and Cholla Canyon to the right. A series of elevated ridges surround the monument, and most of the topography is green, turning to light brown at the ridge peaks. Extended Description The Visitor Center sits to the right of center near the bottom edge of the map. A white road enters from near the lower right corner and passes a picnic area and amphitheater before ending in a loop labeled Parking Area at the Visitor Center. An arrow alongside the road points to State Route 188. Heading up and to the left from the amphitheater is the Upper Cliff Dwelling Trail represented by a winding dashed line that runs along Cave Canyon, a shallow pass at the left-hand base of the monument’s ridge. A label indicates that only Ranger-guided tours can access this trail. The trail is 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) and 600 feet (189 meters) in elevation. The Upper Cliff Dwelling Trail eventually veers up and to the right, ending at the top of the monument. Heading to the right from the amphitheater is the Lower Cliff Dwelling Trail, represented also by a winding dashed line that connects with the Visitor Center and then continues to run along the right of the monument, parallel to Cholla Canyon. The Lower Cliff Dwelling Trail, which is 0.5 miles and 350 feet (107 meters) in elevation gain/loss, ends further up toward the elevated tip of the canyon. Text in the lower left corner reads, “Scale and direction vary in this southwest facing 3D perspective view.”
