Alt Text Map of Cowpens National Battlefield in South Carolina. The park is shaded in light teal with the surrounding area in tan. Highways are represented with red lines, park roads with white lines, and park trails with green or black dashed lines. Extended Description The cocoon-shaped park is oriented diagonally so one pointed end faces into the top left corner and the other angles down to the right. The park is bounded along its northeast edge by State Route 11, the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (National Scenic Byway), and to the west by the north-south running State Route 110, Cowpens Battlefield Scenic Highway. A park road travels from the Main Entrance near the intersection of State Routes 11 and 110 and creates a loop that covers about two-thirds of the park’s length. Traveling in a counterclockwise direction, the road first passes the US Memorial Monument erected in 1932 and the Visitor Center. On the opposite narrow end of the loop is Cowpens Nature Trail, a picnic area, and group shelter. An access road branching off the long, top side of the loop leads to Robert Scruggs House and another to Battlefield Parking #1. Battlefield Parking #2 is between this and the main entrance. The Battlefield Trail creates a loop within the park road to follow the historic route of Green River Road up the middle of the park before turning and passing Washington Light Infantry Monument, which was erected in 1856. State Route 110 leads south eventually “To Interstate 85 and town of Cowpens” and north “To Cliffside, NC.” State Route 11 leads west “To Interstate 26 and Chesnee” and southeast “To Interstate 85 and Gaffney.” A sliver of park near its northeast corner has Trailhead parking. Legend A scale along the bottom of the map measures distances of 0.25 and 0.5 kilometers and 0.25 and 0.5 miles. The legend below reads as follows: White line encased in gray for Auto Loop Road, Green dashed line for Battlefield Trail walking Tour, Black dashed line for Other trail, Gray line for Historic route of Green River Road, and Thin gray arrows with numbers for Road distance and indicator.
