Alt Text Map of Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah. The monument is roughly square with shallowly stepped edges. Terrain is shown in green, tan, and beige within the park and faded versions of those colors outside the park. Extended Description Within the mostly square boundaries of the park, ridges and canyons carved deep into the landscape flare across two big lobes like the veins of a leaf. State Route 143 enters the northeast border of the park and travels along the rim for a short distance, passing North View Overlook at 10,435 feet (3,818 meters). State Route 143 then veers east to eventually lead “To Pangultch and State Route 89 (30 miles/48 kilometers).” Rim Road, which is also labeled State Route 148 outside the park, continues the rippling path along the edge of the canyons and ridges. It passes the Alpine Pond Loop Trail, Chessmen Ridge Overlook, Sunset View Overlook, Sunset Trail, a site with a picnic area and restrooms, Point Supreme Campground, parking, Point Supreme Overlook, and overflow parking and a park store. All three overlooks along this stretch are just over 10,000 feet (3,100 meters). Just past the overflow parking, Rim Road peels away from the edge of the park and continues off the bottom edge of the map near text reading “To State Route 14 (2.5 miles/4 kilometers); To Cedar City and Interstate 15 (22 miles/35 kilometers); To US Route 89 (24 miles/39 kilometers).” The South Rim Trail begins at Point Supreme Overlook and continues the journey along the rim to pass Spectra Point, Ramparts Point, and The Bartizan. All three descend slightly in elevation to The Bartizan, which is at 9,795 feet (2,986 meters). Cedar Banks Amphitheater wraps around the top of the park to create the larger of the two petals. The Meadows is a relatively low spot in the park at the bottom. Features fan out from this area to include, from left to right, Adams Barrier, Adams Canyon, Orange Ridge, Highleap Canyon, Lavender Canyon, Columbine Ridge, and Columbine Canyon. In the slightly smaller lobe to the right are Chessman Ridge, Chessmen Canyon, Bristlecone Ridge, Jericho Canyon, Crescent Hollow, and Shooting Star Ridge. Ashdown Creek and Rattle Creek wind through the park from the western border. Rattlecreek Snake Trail enters the map from the left edge, travels east through Ashdown Gorge Wilderness Area, along Snow Ridge in Cedar Breaks National Monument, and along the northern rim before ending at State Route 143. Sites around the park include Brian Head (town site) and Brian Head Peak at 11,307 feet (3,446 meters) along the top and patches of private land near the top right corner. Text there reads, “Check road and weather conditions before traveling to the park. Flash floods and snow can make travel on access roads difficult, dangerous and sometimes impossible.” Dixie National Forest stretches down the right edge of the map to Markagunt Plateau, which curves along the bottom right corner. Blowhard Mountain and Blowhard Hollow abut the park along the bottom of the map. Legend A compass in the lower left corner of the map shows north angled slightly to the left. The legend has a black dashed line for Trail and symbols for Picnic area, Park store, and Restrooms. A scale below the legend measures distances of 0.5 kilometers and 0.5 miles Text under that reads, “Scale varies in this perspective view. Approximate scale at Point Supreme.”
