Alt Text Map of Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado. Shown in green, the park has stepped, boxy boundaries that extend to the left, up, and right in three distinct arms. Most of the park is in Colorado but the western arm reaches into Utah. Most of the surrounding areas are tan and the roads are shown in red. Extended Description The Green River enters the monument at the southwest corner. It moves east and then north through the top arm. The Green River connects to the Yampa River in the eastern half of the park. State Route 149 becomes Cub Creek Road after it enters the park in the southwest corner The road passes the Quarry Visitor Center, which has parking, shuttle pickup, a ranger station, wheelchair access, picnic area, and nature trail; Quarry Exhibit Hall, which has Dinosaur fossils and wheelchair access; Fossil Discovery nature Trail; and Swelter Shelter Petroglyphs and Pictographs before dipping south in a U shape to pass Green River, open in the summer only and with a ranger station and wheelchair access and end between Turtle Rock and Josie Morris Cabin. The Green River then winds northeast past Split Mountain, which has campgrounds, picnic areas, and star gazing; the Desert Voices nature Trail; Sound of Silence nature Trail; and a series of rapids along Split Mountain. The river continues past Rainbow Park with a primitive campground with no water; Island Park with a river/backcountry campsite for which a permit is required; other campsites, and Steamboat Rock before arriving at Echo Park, open in the summer only and with a ranger station and campground. After Echo Park, the Green River turns north and exits the park near the Gates of Lodore, which has a ranger station, campground, and nature trail, at the top edge of that arm. The Yampa River runs east from Echo Park, roughly paralleling the unpaved Yampa Branch Road to Deerlodge Park, which has a campground and ranger station, at the eastern end of the park. To the south, Harpers Corner Road branches north off US Route 40 at Canyon Visitor Center to travel north into the park. Canyon Visitor Center is by the town of Dinosaur and is open seasonally. It is the site of Monument Headquarters and has a ranger station, wheelchair access, picnic area, and nature trail. The northern terminus of that road is Harpers Corner. Notes along Harpers Corner Road read “Dinosaur fossils can be seen only at the Quarry Exhibit Hall area. No camping allowed on Harpers Corner Road.” and “Harpers Corner Road closed to cars at Plug Hat Bute during winter.” Surrounding sites include Red Fleet State Park to the west, Skull Creek Basin, Cliff Ridge, and Stuntz Ridge to the south. Represented in red, Jones Hole Road stops just short of the monument near the northwest end, and US Route 40 runs across the bottom edge of the map. Legend A scale in the lower left corner measures distances of 5 kilometers and 5 miles. Below the scale, a legend reads as follows: Red solid line for Paved Road, White line encased in black for Unpaved Road, White line encased in black dashed lines for Unpaved road (High-clearance vehicles advised), Gray triangle for Distance indicator, Black dashed line for Trail, and Dark blue section of a lighter blue line for Rapids. Text below reads, “Many unpaved roads are impassable when wet. Check conditions.” Two columns of symbols to the right represent Ranger station, Picnic area, Nature trail, Star gazing, Wheelchair-accessible, Campground (water available summer only), Primitive campground, and River/backcountry campsite (permit required).
