Alt Text Map of African Burial Ground National Monument and the neighboring Ted Weiss Federal Building at 290 Broadway in New York. The monument in the upper right corner is shaded green, and the adjoining building is yellow. Extended Description African Burial Ground National Monument is located at the corner of Duane Street and African Burial Ground Way/Elk Street. The Ted Weiss Federal Building is to the left of the monument and takes up the rest of the block. Starting to the left, the Visitor Center entrance and a security checkpoint there in on Broadway. The African Burial Ground Visitor Center is just inside the Ted Weiss Federal Building. In that building are American Song by Clyde Lynds, Africa Rising by Barbara Chase-Riboud, Unearthed by Frank Bender, and an Untitled mural by Roger Brown. A round work of art at the center of the exhibition space is titled The New Ring Shout and was created by Houston Conwill, Joseph De Pace, and Estella Conwill Majozo. Down the hall is a final piece of artwork, a painted mural by Tomie Arai called Renewal. African Burial Ground National Monument is accessed by a sidewalk from Broadway to Duane Street as indicated by a green dashed line on the map. That path passes the Ancestral Reinterment Ground and leads to the entrance at the Ancestral Libation Chamber and then to a round open space with a world map and spiral at the center. A ramp winds around the full perimeter of the circle and serves as the exit from the monument.
