Alt Text Map of Grand Portage National Monument in Minnesota. Beige-colored land representing Grand Portage Indian Reservation fills most of the left half of the map before curving up and over Lake Superior in the lower right quadrant. Bodies of water are shown in blue and land to the north in peach. Extended Description The peach land along the top of the map represents territory in Ontario, Canada. From west to east, bodies of water that separate Minnesota in the US from Canada are The Cascades, Pigeon River, four areas of rapids, Horn Rapids, Middle Falls, more rapids, Pigeon Falls, and, along the right edge, Pigeon Bay. In that upper right corner, the Grand Portage State Park is shown in green under the Middle and Pigeon Falls. Represented in dark brown, Pigeon River Provincial Park is across Middle Falls in Canada. A green line laid over a black dashed line labeled The Grand Portage begins at the Canada-US border at the US Site of Fort Charlotte near the top left corner of the map. The green path travels east and then southeast to meet Lake Superior. Three unequal sections of the path are marked 4.6 miles (7.4 kilometers), 2.9 miles (4.7 kilometers), and 0.7 miles (1.1 kilometers). The green path ends at Stockade and Great Hall, which also has a dock, in Grand Portage Bay on Lake Superior. Outside the green monument area and farther south along Grand Portage Bay are a Marina and Grand Portage Lodge and Casino. A spur of land curves up and then down to the right from Stockade and Great Hall. County Road 17 connects Stockade with Hat Point, passing Voyageurs Marina along the way. Dashed blue lines stretching from the dock and the Voyageurs Marina join near Grand Portage Island in the bay and continue off the right edge of the map near a note reading “To Isle Royale National Park via passenger ferry, 22 miles (35 kilometers).” State Route 61, represented with a red line, travels north from near Grand Portage Lodge and Casino before shifting northeast to pass a Travel Information Center and two Overlooks over Wauswaugoning Bay. State Route 61 passes the U.S. Customs Port of Entry on the southern end of Grand Portage State Park before traveling across the water to the Canada Point of Entry and up off the top right corner of the map. Pigeon Point extends east below Pigeon Bay and over Susie Island and Lucille Island. Dashed gray lines representing 4-wheel drive only routes create a shallow V across the map from near Patridge Falls and the middle of The Grand Portage. The left arm is Patridge Falls Road and the right is Old U.S. 61. They meet near Flaming Maple Ridge, which is just north of a vertical black line representing U.S. 61. That road curves east as County Road 17, which travels to State Route 61 before curving to Hat Point. Blue diamonds Legend A scale in the upper left corner of the map measures distances of 1 and 2 kilometers and 1 and 2 miles. Below, a gray dashed line represents Unpaved road.
