Alt Text Perspective map of Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota. The park is shown in darker green and the surrounding areas are faded. Bushes dot the flat terrain and Pipestone Creek, shown in blue, and an interpretive trail in yellow wind through the park. Extended Description The triangular park takes up the bottom two-thirds of the map and comes to a point at the intersection of two roads. The pin-straight Hiawatha Avenue enters the map in the center of the left border and continues off the top of the map near the top right corner. An arrow pointing up and to the right near Hiawatha Road reads “To Pipestone, MN.” Running in the opposite direction, Reservation Avenue creates a wide, shallow X where it crosses Hiawatha Avenue. An arrow pointing up and to the left near Reservation Avenue reads “To US Route 75.” Reservation Avenue curves gently inward where it enters the park. A spur near the intersection leads to Three Maidens, which has a picnic area. Reservation Avenue continues to curl inward and create a loop in front of the Visitor Center and Museum at the bottom center of the map. The visitor center is rendered in three dimensions and has restrooms and a park store. Pipestone Creek roughly mirrors Reservation Avenue but slightly higher up the map. The creek crosses Reservation Avenue before paralleling Hiawatha Avenue almost to the left edge of the map. The creek makes a right turn to cross Hiawatha Avenue and enter the park. It tumbles down the Winnewissa Falls before passing close to the Visitor Center and off the bottom edge of the map. Two legs of the yellow trail emerge from the Visitor Center. One leg parallels the creek and then makes a loop at Winnewissa Falls. The other trail travels up from the visitor center and then turns right onto the South Quarry Trail, which connects with Reservation Avenue. The second leg turns to the left to Circle Trail, which cuts diagonally through the park and then angles along a tree line to arrive at Winnewissa Falls and connect with the other trail there. One final arm connects Circle Trail with South Quarry Trail. Legend The compass in the lower left corner of the map points down and to the left. A scale next to it measures distances of 200 meters and 200 feet. A note there reads, “Approximate foreground scale. Scale varies in this perspective view.” A legend in the lower right corner shows the yellow line as the Interpretive Trail and is followed by symbols for Restrooms, Picnic area, and Park store.
