Alt Text Map of Scott Bluff National Monument in Nebraska. The park is shown in tan and the surrounding area outside the park is a lighter shade. Traveling northwest, the Old Oregon Trail spans the map and cuts through the park. Extended Description The park is just west of the town of Gering, which takes up the rightmost quarter of the map, and southwest of Scottsbluff in the top right corner of the map. Two roads connect Gering and Scottsbluff. North-south running Five Rocks Road lies in western Gering and about ten blocks west of 10th Street. Just south of Scottsbluff, Beltline Road parallels the North Platte River, which cuts diagonally across the top right corner of the map. The Old Oregon Trail runs horizontally through Gering as M Street, and a note at the right edge of the map indicates that the trail leads “To State Route 92 and Chimney Rock National Historic Site.” After passing through the park, the trail extends off the top edge of the map near a note reading “To State Routes 92 and 29 and US Route 26, Fort Laramie National Historic Site, and Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.” Shown as a brown dashed line, the Oregon National Historic Trail enters the right edge of the map near the bottom right corner before joining and traveling near the Old Oregon Trail about halfway across the park. Here the historic trail jogs north and then roughly parallels the Old Oregon Trail off the top edge of the map. Both trails pass the Visitor Center, about a third of the way up the park. A bicycle trail begins at the Visitor Center and heads to the eastern edge of the park. The Saddle Rock hiking trail also begins at the Visitor Center and heads north, passing Scotts Spring about halfway along its length. Near the end of the trail, the path splits into two directions. The northern leg continues to the North Overlook, which has an elevation of 4,649 feet (1,417 meters). The southern branch leads to the South Overlook. Back at the Visitor Center, a road heads north into the park just west of the Saddle Rock Trail and ends just south of the North Overlook. Along the road are Eagle Rock and two bluff tunnels. Sentinel Rock, Crown Rock, and Dome Rock are spaced somewhat evenly from near the visitor center down into the lower right corner of the park, passing the South Bluff along the way. Legend A legend in the bottom left corner of the map reads as follows: Green dotted line for Bicycle Trail and Black dashed line for Hiking Trail. A scale below measures distances 0.5 and 1 kilometer and 0.5 and 1 mile.
