Alt Text Map of the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. A Scenic Drive, indicated in red, and the Little Missouri River in blue ripple through the park to the north, which is bounded by a green line. Extended Description Moving east to west, the scenic drive darts like a flicked ribbon from where it branches off US Route 85 up and across the top third of the map. The North Unit Visitor Center is near the intersection of the scenic drive and US Route 85. A note there reads “Central Time,” and a symbol represents a ranger station. About a third of the way in, a short road jogs south to an area marked Juniper. Symbols represent wheelchair access, an amphitheater, telephone, campground, picnic area, and a group camp area. Buckhorn Trail begins not far from the North Unit Visitor Center and loops north and south under the scenic drive. The self-guided Little Mo Nature Trail, a short loop off Buckhorn Trail, is wheelchair accessible. About two-thirds of the way across the scenic drive, Caprock Coulee Trail and Caprock Coulee Nature Trail create a loop crossing over the scenic drive near River Bend Overlook. To the east, Buckhorn Trail creates a sideways, roughly oval shape that encircles the right half of the scenic drive. The scenic drive ends in the park at the Oxbow Overlook, which measures 2,409 feet (734 meters) near the upper left corner of the map. The Little Missouri River moves northward from the lower left corner of the map before following a similar path as the scenic drive, though slightly to the south. The North Achenbach Trail cuts between the scenic drive and the river, and South Achenbach Trail curves across and then south of the river. The Achenbach Hills meet Long X Divide in the southern half of North Unit territory. Beyond the park unit’s southern boundary, Maah Daah Hey Trail cuts across the southernmost quarter of the map before turning north to meet CCC Campground. CCC and Summit campgrounds are operated by the US Forest Service. Summit Campground is off US Route 85 near the lower right corner near a label reading “To Belfield and Interstate 94, 48 miles (77 kilometers).” A label near the northern edge of the map along US Route 85 reads, “To Watford City, 11 miles (18 kilometers).” A scale in the lower left corner shows the distances for 1 and 2 kilometers and 1 and 2 miles.
