Alt Text Map of Sitka National Historical Park in Alaska. Shown in green, the park occupies a roughly oval-shaped area comprising a peninsula and a strip of mainland along the southeast shore of Baranof Island, which is beige across the northern half of the map. Extended Description In powder blue, Sitka Sound spans the southern shores of Baranof Island. Blue dotted lines show shuttle routes connecting a cruise ship in the sound to two points labeled “Cruise ship tender dock” on the island. To the east, the Indian River bisects the park the long way, creating a peninsula. Returning east, the Park Visitor Center, which has restrooms, is near Merrill Rock at the base of the peninsula near the sound. From here, Totem Trail loops around the southern coast of the peninsula, with 15 red dots marking totem poles or groups and dashed lines showing other trails in and around them. In the southeast corner of the peninsula, an X marks the “Battle of Sitka site 1804,” and a gray, roughly pentagonal outline with a red dot is labeled “Kiks.ádi Fort site.” Another trail just north of the visitor center crosses the Indian River and ends at Sawmill Creek Road along the top edge of the park. Another trail creating a circuit around the mainland side of the park has restrooms at the northwest end and the Russian Memorial at the southeast end. Moving west of Sitka National Historical Park, Lincoln Street is encased in yellow and curves up and to the left around Crescent Harbor. A note alongside Lincoln Street reads, "Route to park,” and one of the cruise ship tender docks is in the harbor. Russian Bishop’s House is just north of the west end of Lincoln Street. Sitka National Cemetery is farther north, and Sheldon Jackson Museum is to the east. The leftmost quarter of the map has a Russian Cemetery with Princess Maksutov’s grave. Moving clockwise around this bulb-shaped bit of land are Saint Michael’s Cathedral and Harrigan Centennial Hall/Sitka Historical Museum at four o’clock. Baronof Castle Hill State Historic Site, the second cruise ship tender dock, Pioneer Home, and Totem Square are between six and eight o’clock. The final quarter includes the Site of Russian stockade and blockhouses, Alaska Brotherhood Hall, and Site of Tingin village and reconstructed blockhouse between nine and eleven o’clock. O’Connell Bridge connects this, Baranof Island, with Japonski Island to the west, where text reads, "To airport.” An arrow at the top left corner of the map next to Swan Lake reads, "To Alaska State Ferry Terminal and Old Sitka State Historic Site (site of Redoubt Saint Michael) 7 miles (11 kilometers).” Legend A scale in the lower left corner of the map measures 0.1 and 0.2 kilometers and 0.1 and 0.2 miles. Below, a red dot represents Totem pole or group, a dashed line represents Trail, and a symbol for restroom follows.
