Alt Text Map of Alagnak Wild River, which stretches westward from Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. The park boundary closely hugs the course of the Alagnak River for three-fourths of its length, which weaves across the center of the map from Kukaklek Lake in the northeast to the Kvichak River in the southwest. Various shades of green and yellow gradate across the landscape to indicate the area’s many biomes. Extended Description Pockets of ice blue water perforate the pale green landscape surrounding the river, which is fed by Kukaklek Lake at the top right corner of the map. Most of the lake’s shoreline visible in this map is surrounded by a transparent gray area labeled Native village corporation. Alagnak Public Camping Easement near the mouth of the river has a campsite. Big Ku Lodge is on the riverbank southwest of this. The Alagnak River winds down to where it meets the Nonvianuk River farther southwest. Much of the coastline there is also marked with solid gray boxes. The Nonvianuk River is fed by the Nonvianuk Lake, near the bottom right corner of the map. Near the intersection of the river and lake are the Nonvianuk Camp Lodge, Nonvianuk Patrol Cabin with a Ranger patrol cabin, which is intermittently staffed, and Royal Wolf Lodge in a solid gray area. The Alagnak River continues west in an upward-curving S shape past more solid gray areas, the Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge and Alagnak Wilderness Camps, both of which have lodges, and Cutbank at Estradas with a campsite nearby. Near the end of this leg of the park is another translucent gray Native village corporation area. Katmai Lodge is between this and another, backward L-shaped bit of land labeled Alagnak Wild River. The river continues outside the park boundary to meet the Kvichak River, passing Anglers’ Alibi Lodge and Alagnak Lodge on its way. The Kvichak River runs near the left edge of the map. The towns of Kvichak to the south and Levelock to the north are labeled, as is Cape Horn near its meeting with the Alaknak River. A block of Katmai National Park Wilderness Area is in the lower right corner of the map. Inset Map An inset map in the lower left corner of the main map shows a more distant view of southeastern Alaska. Alagnak Wild River runs alongside Katmai National Park and Preserve, shown in green. Also in green are Lake Clark National Park and Preserve to the north, Kenai Fjords National Park to the northeast, and Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve to the south. A scale in the bottom right corner of the inset map measures distances of 100 kilometers and 100 miles. Legend A legend for the main map has symbols for Lodge, Campsite, and Ranger patrol cabin (intermittently staffed). Below, a column to the left is titled, “Private lands – No entry without owner permission.” The first item in this column is a gray box stamped with a capital letter P and labeled, “Private property and native allotments.” The second item is a translucent gray box labeled, “Native village corporation.” To the right, another column is titled, “Generalized landcover.” A stack of four colored stripes correspond to varieties of terrain as follows: Sage green for forest, Tan for shrub, Butter yellow for sedge/herbaceous, and Pale blue-green for wetland. A scale at the bottom shows distances for 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 kilometers and 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 miles.
