Alt Text Map of the American camp in San Juan Island National Historical Park in Washington. The park stretches most of the length of a long peninsula. It is shaded green, and other areas are tan. Griffin Bay to the north and the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the south are shown in blue. Extended Description Cattle Point Road enters the map from near the top left corner and travels first the width of the park and then continues onto the knob of land at the end. An access road branching from Cattle Point Road near the western park border leads to the American Camp Visitor Center, which has restrooms and a picnic area. A web of trails spreads from the visitor center to also access the Officers’ Quarters and Parade Ground, which is shaded purple, and a Reboubt, which is an oval-shaped area shown and labeled in blue. Nearby sites include the Laundress Quarters and the Belle Vue Sheep Farm Site. One self-guiding trail, shown in red, creates a loop near these sites. Other trails, including the South Beach Trail, lead to the southern coastline. Continuing past the visitor center, Cattle Point Road passes a gravel road accessing the Fourth of July Beach, where there are also restrooms, parking, and a picnic area. The Cattle Point Road continues to another parking area and to a second web of trails comprising one self-guiding trail and the Nature Walk, Jakles Lagoon Trail, and Mount Finlayson Trail. Cattle Point Road continues out of the east end of the park and curls up the east coastline of the peninsula to reach the Cattle Point Interpretive Area, which has a picnic area. Just south of the second parking area and at the start of the trails, Pickett’s Lane drops straight south to South Beach, where there is parking, restrooms, and a gravel road that leads to a picnic area. A gravel road branches off Cattle Point Road just east of Pickett’s Lane and connects to the upward sweep of Cattle Point Road near its eastern terminus. Another gravel road reaches from Pickett’s Road west to an unpaved bicycle trail, which in turn leads back to the visitor center. The Frazer Homestead Trail Connector has one end at the visitor center, and it travels up and off the top edge of the map after running roughly parallel to Cattle Point Road. The approximate site of Cutlar Farm is labeled just east of this trail. Marine sites along Griffin Bay include Old Town Lagoon, Jakles Lagoon, and Third Lagoon. Along the Strait of Juan de Fuca are Eagle Cove, Grandmas Cove, and Cattle Point. Legend A scale in the top right corner of the map measures distances of 0.1 and 0.5 kilometers and 0.1 and 0.5 miles. In the bottom left corner of the map are three symbols representing Restrooms, Parking, and Picnic area. The legend continues as follows: Gray line for Gravel road, Green dotted line for Bicycle trail (unpaved), Red dashed line for Self-guiding trail, and Black dashed line for Hiking trail.
