Roads and highways are represented by pink lines. Extended Description Gateway is made of three units: the Jamaica Bay and Staten Island Units in New York and the Sandy Hook Unit in New Jersey. Jamaica Bay Unit The Jamaica Bay Unit is located in New York next to the John F. Kennedy International Airport. Within the unit are Frank Charles Memorial Park near the northern end of Cross Bay Boulevard; Canarsie Pier and Bergen Beach, both along Belt Parkway; Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, which sits near the center of the bay; Floyd Bennett Field just off Flatbush Avenue near the mouth of the bay with Plumb Beach right next to it; the Ryan Visitor Center in Floyd Bennett Field; and Jacob Riis Park, Fort Tilden, and Breezy Point along Beach Channel Drive, which makes up the southern border of the unit. Staten Island Unit The Staten Island Unit is a long strip of land that stretches along the coast of Staten Island from the Verrazano-Narrows Bridges to Richmond Parkway. The notable landmarks within the unit include the Fort Wadsworth Visitor Center and Fort Wadsworth just off the bridge; Miller Field near the middle of the unit along Hylan Boulevard; and Great Kills Park in the southernmost area of the unit. There are also two islands in the Lower Bay that are part of the unit. They are Hoffman Island and Swinburne Island. Neither is accessible to the public. Sandy Hook Island The Sandy Hook Unit is a long, narrow peninsula jutting off the northern coast of New Jersey. It has a single road that runs through it and four landmarks: the Sandy Hook Visitor Center and a Ranger Station near the center of the unit and Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Lighthouse near the northern end of the unit. Legend A legend in the lower right corner of the map reads as follows: Green shading for Park land, Light blue shading for Park water, and Green solid line for Legislative boundary. A scale below measures distances of 3 kilometers and 3 miles.
