Alt Text Map of Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas. The park is shown in green, surrounding areas in tan, and roads in black or red. Extended Description The preserve is shaped roughly like a capital letter L but with a stout backbone and a stepped right edge leading to the horizontal leg. US Route 50 runs horizontally across the map near the bottom edge. State Route 177 enters the map near the lower center and leads straight up almost to the park boundary before jogging west and then continuing north through the park and off the top of the map. Strong City is labeled off US Route 50 near where State Route 177 takes its short trip west. County Road U leads to the southeastern corner of the park, which has a trailhead and fishing. Just inside the park and near State Route 177 are two hiking sites, one of which also has fishing. State Route 177 continues north past the Visitor Center, which is near the center of the park, and another location marked for hiking before rippling out of the park and extending off the top edge. Hiking trails crisscross across most of the park, especially up the vertical leg. Legend A legend in the top right corner of the map has a black dashed line for Hiking trail and symbols for Trailhead and Fishing. A scale below this measures distances of 1 kilometer and 1 mile.
