Land covers most of the map area with blue segments of the Arctic Ocean in the northwest and southwest corners. Extended Description Designated regions are shown in shades of green and tan across the map, while surrounding land is shown in beige. Dozens of rivers and creeks meander across the terrain in all directions. A stocking-shaped fern-green area along the west coast outlines Cape Krusenstern National Monument. A ranger station is open seasonally at Anigaaq, on the southern coast. A sweeping mint-green area nearly spanning the midsection of the landscape outlines Noatak National Preserve. There are seasonal ranger stations at Kelly River to the west and another to the east, at a site also labeled Anigaaq. A roughly circular fern-green area beneath and in the middle of the preserve outlines Kobuk Valley National Park. Seasonal ranger stations are near the southern border of the preserve with Kallarichuk to the west and Onion Portage to the east. Continuing south, Selawik National Wildlife Refuge is shown in pale lime green while the upper northeast quadrant of the map, the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska is shown in tan. Along the border of Noatak Preserve to the east, Gates of the Arctic National Park is shown as a pocket of fern green. Three mountain ranges dominate the landscape, most notably the Brooks Range, which runs along the northern boundary of Noatak National Preserve. The De Long Mountains skirt the northwestern edge of the preserve and the Baird Mountains curve along the southwestern border, passing through the northwestern region of Kobuk Valley National Park. Peeking into the southwest corner of the map, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve appears in pale green pocked with blue lakes beside text reading “For a detailed map of Bering Land Bridge National Preserve, please refer to its official map and guide.” A dashed blue line marking the Arctic Circle skims Bering Land Bridge National Preserve as it gently curves from west to east across the lower quarter of the map. Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge is also indicated in the bottom right of the map.
