Alt Text Map of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Maine. The monument is bordered and shaded in dark green against otherwise lighter green terrain. Water is shown as blue, and roads are represented with yellow or white lines. Extended Description Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is roughly triangular in shape with a short bottom edge, long vertical edge to the left, and the longest, diagonal side facing east. The Wassataquoik Stream runs southeast through the park, and the East Branch Penobscot River borders the longest side. Two areas are enclosed in rectangles with shaded edges. One tall rectangle is around the tip of the monument, where the North Entrance via New River Road is labeled. Text above the rectangle reads “See detail maps on other side.” The second rectangle is about twice the size and horizontally oriented, and it encompasses two sections of the monument. The Tekαkάpimək Contact Station is just off the East Branch Penobscot River and the South Entrance via Swift Brook Road is in a separate section to the south. Another green parcel, also roughly rectangular and the same shade of green, is tucked in the crook created by the highlighted regions. The Seboeis River runs vertically down this section, and the Seboeis Parcel Entrance via American Thread Road is labeled. Baxter State Park, shaded in a lighter green, lies to the west of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. Mount Katahdin is labeled there with an elevation of 5,267 feet (1,605 meters). Katahdin Lake is tucked south of Wassataquoik Stream along the western edge of the southern highlighted rectangle. Interstate 95 cuts across the bottom right corner of the map and State Routes 159 and 11 run through and connect the towns of Patten and Sherman to the east of the park, and Millinocket Lake lies to the south. Legend A scale in the lower center of the map measures distances of 5 kilometers and 5 miles.
