Alt Text Map of Fossil Butte National Monument in Wyoming. Park areas are outlined in green, and surrounding terrain is shaded tan. Roads are represented with red lines, and the Union Pacific Railroad is shown as a gray line. Extended Description US Route 30 stretches across the bottom of the map and continues “To Cokeville” off the left edge and “To Kemmerer” off the right edge. County Road 300 branches off US Route 30 and parallels the highway before meeting it again on the other side of the map. The Union Pacific Railroad runs horizontally between these two roads. County Road 300 makes up most of the southern boundary of Fossil Butte National Monument. The park has deeply stepped sides, almost all of which extend in straight lines. Chicken Creek Road travels north off County Road 300 near the southwest corner of the park. Chicken Creek Road passes two interpretive pullouts before arriving at the Visitor Center, which is at an elevation of 6,800 feet (2,073 meters). The road continues as Scenic Drive, which passes two more interpretive pullouts and ends just past a site with a picnic area, restrooms, and the Chicken Creek Nature Trail. A gravel road continues north to the top edge of the park, and gated service roads branch off of the gravel road. The Historic Quarry Trail extends off the east end of County Road 300 and makes a loop. A spur off the northern side of the loop reaches the Historic Quarry. A vault toilet is available in this area near County Road 300. Legend The legend across the bottom edge of the map reads as follows: Black semicircle on a red line for Interpretive pullout, Gray road for Gravel road, Seasonal use only, Black double dashed line for Service road, and Black dashed line for Trail. Two symbols represent Picnic area and Vault toilet. The scale to the right measures distances of 0.5 and 1 kilometers and 0.5 and 1 miles.
