Alt Text Map of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in California. The Municipal Pier curls like an emerging leaf around Aquatic Cove and into the blue San Francisco Bay, which fills the top two-thirds of this map. Piers, a museum, library, visitor center, and other sites cluster along the shoreline. Extended Description About half the areas along the coast are shaded green. All the buildings and vessels within that green area mentioned here are shaded dark yellow, indicating that they are part of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. City blocks on either side of the green areas along the bottom edge of the map are shown gray. This description will move west to east first within the park and then across the surrounding areas. The yellow Maritime Library and Park Headquarters, labeled “Bldg E,” is just outside the green shaded Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Fort Mason, to the west. The Municipal Pier sweeps up along the right edge of the dome-shaped Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Fort Mason to unfurl up and over Aquatic Cove. Curving counterclockwise from the tip of the pier and traveling through an area labeled Aquatic Park Historic District, Sea Scout Base is at eight o’clock; Bocce Ball Courts are at seven; the Maritime Museum, which has information and restrooms, is at six o’clock. A beach shaded pale orange follows the cove opposite the pier to pass the Maritime Store, Lewis Ark, restrooms, and the Small Boat Shop. Now the angular Hyde Pier reaches first north and then northwest. Vessels lined up along that pier include the C.A. Thayer, Eppleton Hall, and Balclutha on the cove side; Alma at the end of the pier; and the Hercules and Eureka on the bay side. The Powell and Hyde Cable Car Turnaround is tucked under the beach back on the land. One block over across Hyde Street, the Argonaut Hotel has a Visitor Center with free exhibits, information, and restrooms. Represented with a red line, the Bay Trail begins at the Maritime Library to the west, snakes along the waterfront and among the buildings and vessels and continues past the park areas to Fisherman’s Wharf to the east. The wharf and areas around it are gray. These include the slender Pier 47 that angles slightly up from the shoreline and the wider, longer Pier 45, which juts farther into the bay. The Bay Trail continues past the wharf to end at the USS Pampanito, a World War Two submarine. Farther along the pier is the Jeremiah O’Brien, a World War Two Liberty ship. Streets on the city blocks lining the park are labeled. A circuit that includes the F Line Streetcar Stop on Jones Street is labeled “To Alcatraz Ferry at Pier 33.” Dashed gray lines representing Historical Park Boundary and blue lines indicating Breakwaters enclose the Municipal Pier, Hyde Street Pier, and the Aquatic Cove. Legend A scale over the west end of the coastline measures 100 and 300 meters and 100 and 300 feet. The legend below indicates: Orange blocks and ship symbols for San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park buildings and vessels, and Red line for Walking route between Maritime Library, Maritime Museum, Hyde Street Pier, Visitor Center, and USS Pampanito. Symbols representing Information and Restrooms follow.
