Landscape photograph showing vast hillsides covered with horizontal vegetation lines under a blue sky populated with fluffy clouds.
Photograph showing solifluction lobes in
the Bendeleben Mountains.
The solifluction lobes in the photograph are marked by the horizontal lines of vegetation. Solifluction is the downslope flow of wet, unfrozen material over frozen material. Solifuction, which typically allows
vegetation and soils to remain intact, is a slower process than an active-layer detachment.
