A black-and-white landscape photograph shows an expansive grassy plain leading to a large, tree-covered hill under a cloudy sky. Large guns have been set up on the plain.
Mount Alifan, overlooking the Hågat Beachhead, was home to Colonel Tsunetaro Suenaga's well-fortified command post. The mountain was captured by U.S. Marines on July 22, 1944. In the foreground at the base of the mountain, Long Toms (155mm) field guns have been set up.
