Teaching with Historic Places is sponsored, in part, by the Cultural Resources Training Initiative and Parks as Classrooms programs of the National Park Service. This lesson is one in a series that brings the important stories of historic places into the classrooms across the country. Teachers can use this resource for lesson plans that will help students bring to life the historic railroad town of Thurmond while learning about the significance of the railroad to the New River Gorge area and to the nation.
