The evening will feature the Ruth and Abby, the 1850s ladies, from 6:00-8:00 PM, Youth Ambassador Program (YAP!) at 6:00 PM, and Schooner Ernestina activities beginning at 7:00 All events take place on AHA! night, Thursday, February 14, at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park's visitor center. New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park's visitor center is located at 33 William Street in downtown New Bedford. As always, admission is free. HA HA on AHA! with Ruth and Abby, the national park's 1850s ladies, from 6:00-7:30 PM. Laugh and giggle with the girls as they share limericks, riddles and funny stories from New Bedford's heyday. The Youth Ambassador Program, YAP!, will be premiering a new Matrix-themed music video about the New England National Scenic Trail. The premiere event will take place in the park theater from approximately 6:00-7:00 PM. Guests from the New England National Scenic Trail will be in attendance, as well as the performers and the director. The fun continues at 7:00 PM, with a birthday salute for Schooner Ernestina. Celebrate Schooner Ernestina's special day with birthday cake and children's crafts, join in with the "fufu" band (a fufu band was an informal band that sailors would put together and often included makeshift instruments), and watch authentic films from the time when Effie M. Morrissey (her original name) explored the North Pole. New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park was established by Congress in 1996 to help preserve and interpret America's nineteenth century whaling industry. The park, which encompasses a 13-block National Historic Landmark District, is the only National Park Service area addressing the history of the whaling industry and its influence on the economic, social, and environmental history of the United States. The National Park visitor center is located at 33 William Street in downtown New Bedford. It is open seven days a week, from 9 AM-5 PM, and offers information, exhibits, and a free orientation movie every hour on the hour from 10 AM-4 PM. The visitor center is wheelchair-accessible, and is free of charge.
