Tupelo Detour - McCullough BLVD to North of Visitor Center - milepost 262 - 266

Detour Information

The detour is expected to be in place until around the first of the year. Completion will depend on the weather and other factors.
NOTE:
  • The Parkway Visitor Center at Milepost 266 can only be accessed from HWY 145.
  • All trails accesses along the detour will be closed.
  • The bicycle camp at milepost 266 will be closed.
  • Bicyclists may want to consider an alternate route such as the one suggested by Natchez Trace Travel at this link.


We have provided two routes each for south and northbound travelers. If you need something to eat, gas, restaurants, hotels or shopping, take the Business Route.

If you want to by pass business traffic, follow the instructions for Avoid Business Traffic

The Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center is less than ¼ mile south of the northern detour terminus.(2680 Natchez Trace Parkway 662-680-4027 or 1800-305-7417)

Avoid Business Traffic: Take detour off Trace onto N Gloster. Turn left a light at Barnes Crossing (approximate 1 mile/at Walgreens). Get in right lane and take ramp to HWY 45 S (approximate 1/4 mile). Take HWY 45 S to McCullough BLVD (HWY 178) west (approximate 4 miles). Head west on McCullough BLVD to the Natchez Trace Parkway (Trace) (approximate 1 mile).



Business Route: Take detour off Trace onto N Gloster (HWY 145). Stay on N Gloster to McCullough BLVD (approximate 4 miles). Take the ramp to McCullough (HWY 178) west. Follow signs to Natchez Trace Parkway (Trace) (approximate 1 mile).

Northbound Travelers

The Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center is between (approximately ¼ mile) Walgreens at Barnes Crossing, and the northern detour terminus. (2680 Natchez Trace Parkway 662-680-4027 or 1800-305-7417)


Avoid Business Traffic: Take detour onto McCullough BLVD (east). Take ramp to HWY 45N (approx. 1.2 mile). Get off at Barnes Crossing (approx. 4 miles). and turn left at bottom of ramp Get in the right lane and turn right onto N Gloster (at Walgreens approx. ¼ mile). That will take you to the Natchez Trace Parkway entrance (Trace) (approx. 1 mile)

Business Route: Take detour onto McCullough BLVD (east). Take ramp to N Gloster heading north. N Gloster will eventually take you to the Natchez Trace Parkway entrance (Trace).

 

Additional Information


With two detours in place, there are only 27 miles of the Parkway open between McCullough Blvd, and Hwy 72 in Alabama. Although it is not an official detour route, some travelers may want to take the direct route on HWY 45. HWY 45 has exits at McCullough Blvd in Tupelo, and HWY 72 in Corinth, MS (HWY 72 runs between Cherokee, AL and Corinth, MS)

Don’t forget when you are in Tupelo, MS to stop by the Parkway Visitor Center which can be accessed from N. Gloster Ave (MS-145).

The Visitor Center is open during normal business hours seven days a week. The visitor center is closed Thanksgiving, December 25th and January 1st.
