Map of closed area at Fort Washington Park
NPS
September 19, 2025: The National Park Service is extending and reducing in size the temporary closure of a section of Fort Washington Park as construction continues to rehabilitate the historic lighthouse. The area around the Fort Washington Lighthouse is closed until June 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Violation is prohibited. A map illustrating the closed park areas is attached, and closed park areas will be delineated by fencing and signage.
The extension of this temporary closure is necessary to provide for visitor safety during a comprehensive rehabilitation project to restore the historic lighthouse and improve the visitor experience. Previously closed walkways that were closed during repaving have reopened.
The National Park Service appreciates the public’s cooperation in this matter.
