The embossed design of this fireback is the coat-of-arms of King George II. The embossed "OXFORD" and "1758" indicate that the fireback was made at Oxford Furnace, Warren County, NJ in 1758. A fireback is a decorated cast iron plate that fits in the back of an open fireplace.
