Home Sweet Home

CCC companies lived in wooden barracks sharing quarters with 40 to 50 other enrollees. They also shared a latrine, a bath house, a mess hall, a hospital, a recreation hall and a school house with as many as 200 other men stationed at a camp.

According to an enrollee from company 1374, "Life in a CCC camp was a new experience for all the men involved. Sharing close quarters with strangers also had its difficult moments. Fred Hohman recalled having to share a tent with a gentleman who refused to bathe. No longer able to bear the stench of his tent mate, Fred took him down to the river and forced a cold version of clean upon him."
