Necklace with Pendant
Plateau
1870s
This necklace consists of shell wampam (beads) strung on twisted buckskin cordage. The pendant is a cut section of abalone shell attached with buckskin cord. This necklace reflects the trade in shells from the Pacific coast and from tribes living down the Snake and Columbia Rivers.
