Dance Bustle
c 1970s
For the first half of the twentieth century, dancing was discouraged and outlawed on many reservations and in boarding schools. Since World War Two, dancing is the centerpiece of pow wows across the country. This non-Indian made dance bustle is worn on the back of the dancer and positioned so the feathers extend outward.
