Toy Helmet Manzanar Fire Department 1942 - 1945 Manzanar maintained a full-time fire department staffed by paid internees. The chief fire hazards at camp were burned-out fuses, homemade electric cookers, frayed or worn extension cords, line overloads, and papers or other combustibles stored in or beneath barracks. Fire inspectors also supervised the fire drills in the elementary and high schools and gave fire prevention talks in the recreation and mess halls. This toy helmet belonged to Arthur Yamada whose father George Yamada was the fire department's engineer. The family lived next door to the fire department in Block 13 at Manzanar. Metal, cloth.
