Photograph of President Lincoln's Horse
1865

Lincoln rode his horse frequently when traveling the legal circuit.  "Old Bob" stayed behind in Springfield when the Lincolns went to Washington. The horse was given a place of honor in Lincoln’s funeral procession.  Here the horse, draped in mourning, is being readied for the procession.
