Drapery Fragment
1850-1860

Damask brocade fabric in rust and gold, vertical floral pattern.

Mary Lincoln was concerned that her home should have a refined and elegant appearance.  This was especially important after Mr. Lincoln was nominated for the presidency and hundreds of people came to visit.  She decorated the parlor with the finest materials, like these rust and gold brocade draperies.
