Charles Francis Adams wrote in his diary on 6 October, 1849, "I went out and met Mr. Frankenstein who has come to take a sketch in oils of the old mansion. I wandered with him over the fields examining the effect from various points. We finally fixed upon the end of the Railroad bridge."
