Clara Barton (attributed)
ca. 1869

Clara Barton is believed to have completed this drawing of a mountain chalet while recovering from nervous exhaustion in Switzerland. While there, she met Dr. Louis Appia, who introduced her to the work of the International Red Cross. He was one of five founding members of the "International Committee for Relief to Wounded Soldiers," later renamed the "International Committee of the Red Cross."
