John Hilton
ca. 1950s

Hilton lived in the Mojave desert, where he ran a gem shop. The artist exhibited his desert landscapes in New York and California, and regularly exhibited at the Death Valley 49ers show. Hilton used encaustic painting technique (the use of wax mediums along with oil) to successfully render the unique desert light.
