Harry Cassie Best
Date Unknown

Initially a cartoonist, Best taught drawing in San Francisco. On a trip to Yosemite, he was so taken with the place that he decided to make his home there. In 1908, Best gave one of his paintings of Mount Shasta to Theodore Roosevelt. In 1921, a man with a camera knocked at his door and asked to use his piano. The man turned out to be Ansel Adams, who married Best's daughter in 1928. Best's Studio in Yosemite is now known as the Ansel Adams Gallery.
