Neoclassical style, 1810-1830
Paris

This elegant French clock which features an unusual sunflower dial dates from the late Empire or early Restoration period. At that time, clocks depicting gardening and other floral and pastoral themes became increasingly popular. The clock was probably purchased by Governor Charles Carnan Ridgely, who was noted for the many important improvements he made to Hampton’s gardens.
