William Lloyd Garrison was an abolitionist, social reformer, publisher and editor of the anti-slavery newspaper liberator. Douglass, young and free, met Garrison at an anti-slavery meeting. At that time, Garrison believed that the U.S. Constitution was a pro-slavery document. However, Douglass believed that the Constitution could be used as a weapon against slavery. Garrison and Douglass were never reconcile their differences.
