Conservation of NPS Flags
All the flags in this exhibit were photographed during the course of
stabilization and treatment at the NPS Harpers Ferry Center, Conservation
Division in West Virginia. In many cases, the flags were damaged in battle
and during the course of the war. Subsequent exposure to high light levels
and temperature fluctuations caused further deterioration. The National
Park Service has been conducting a major conservation project on flags in
NPS museum collections as funding is made available.
