Trap
It is unknown what wildlife Johnson or Scotty was trying to catch with this trap.  Although the surrounding land looks desolate, bighorn sheep, coyotes, bobcats and the occasional mountain lion can be seen in the hills around the castle.  Perhaps the men were trying to keep the larger predators away for the animals on the ranch.
