Branding Iron
The "J" and "S" branding irons, J for Johnson; S forScot, were used to brand livestock, and were stamped into still wet concrete posts used to delineate the Johnson property. Sometimes the "J" was over the "S," sometimes vice versa.

Marking Iron "D V"

Mr. Johnson marked wooden and leather objects with this "D V" Death Valley monogram.
