Sea Shell

This shell has “The Lord’s Prayer” carved into its side. It represents the gifts that were likely given to Miss Barton by mostly African-American survivors of the Sea Islands Hurricane in South Carolina in 1893. Miss Barton and the American Red Cross provided aid to the victims of the storm in its aftermath.
